My ‘Why”

When we’re little, people always ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I never had a clear-cut answer — but I always knew I was meant to create something.

Fast forward to one of my many self-stalking spirals, I noticed just how often I get asked questions about my experience as a fashion student. It hit me: what if I could make something that gives others the answers I once spent hours Googling or awkwardly DM-ing alumni to find?

Pretty Educated was born out of my love for helping others, over-sharing, storytelling, and being part of a community that just gets it. Whether you're curious about internships, classes, what to wear to a critique, or just where to spot the cutest finance bros in the PATH — (almost) no question is off limits.

If you walk away from this blog feeling even *Pretty* Educated — then I’ll consider it a job well done.

About Me

My name is Lauryn, and I’m a 24-year-old Toronto native. I graduated with honours from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Fashion program in 2024. Since then, I’ve been working as an Assistant Buyer—a role I always dreamed of and feel incredibly grateful to have landed straight out of school.

During my time at TMU, the university introduced a new stream within the Fashion program that offered greater flexibility in choosing courses tailored to your interests. I chose to specialize in Fashion Design Leadership, which gave me a deeper understanding of the business side of fashion. Over those four years, I not only built up my technical skills but also developed the drive and determination it takes to chase big goals in this industry.

Now, a year post-grad, I’m navigating the fashion world while continuing to grow both professionally and personally. And let’s just say—I’ve picked up a lot of insight along the way. Some might even say I’m... Pretty Educated.
